Hiking at Brown County State Park

Memorial Day weekend is all about spending time with family, eating good food, and hanging out outside! At least that's what we like to do. It's a time to be thankful for what you have and the people who fought for the land you live on. This weekend we took a trip to Brown County State Park while Sky's family was in town. We hiked the trails, looked out at the water, and even saw baby woodpeckers! It was a great trip.

Skylar and I decided that this is probably our absolute favorite time to go hiking. We really like the spring weather because it's definitely not too hot. But most importantly, we love the fact that everything is growing in so green and lush--it seems like the forest is just thriving and expanding so much during this time of the year.

We loved spending time with Skylar's family. We took them on a hilly 3.5 mile hike across about three different trails. I enjoyed working up a sweat and feeling the breeze when we were up on the higher peaks.

We had a really great experience of seeing a momma woodpecker feeding her babies! There were two of them. Check it out in the video below--but don't forget to subscribe to Skylar and I on YouTube in order to see our whole adventure in our weekly vlog!

All-in-all, we had a great time with family, good weather, and the beautiful trails. I hope that Skylar and I can find some good trails when we move to Kansas City! If you have any recommendations let us know about them in the comment section below.
