I don't know if you've noticed, but my blog has become more bookish this year. My blog is a lifestyle blog--and that means, it should change as I do. And recently I have been super obsessed with books and journaling and writing in general. So, today I am sharing my February TBR list (aka To Be Read).
In the last month I have recently discovered BookTube, and boy am I obsessed. I spend more time watching videos about people talking about books then I have actually been spending reading books. I love seeing what everyone else is reading, whats popular with the kids, and what books are all the rage and should be added to my shelf immediately.
Speaking of which, I've started up my own book collection as of late, and can't wait to just buy more and more. And, the more I buy, the more excited I am to read them all. That's why, I've made a list of all of the books I want to read in February.
My goal is to read four!
1. The Invention of Wings, By: Sue Monk Kid
This book is a given. This is the novel that we are reading for the Resolutioners Book Club. I am excited to be reading something that is a little out of my comfort zone since I am not normally drawn to historical fiction. This book is based on the true story of Sarah Grimke and her slave Hetty.
It's set in early nineteenth century Charleston and begins when 11 year old Sarah receives Hetty as her handmaiden for her birthday. This book follows their journey together as they grow and learn, encounter ups and downs, and create a unique relationship throughout their years together.
2. A Discovery of Witches, By: Deborah Harkness
I started this book last month, but had to put it on the back-burner because of other commitments. I am about half way through and am so excited to be finishing it off. This vampire, daemon, witch story is actually part of a trilogy (and the last book was just recently released).
This book starts deep in the heart of Oxford's Bodleian Library where a young historian (and witch), Diana Bishop, discovers an alchemical manuscript that will change her life forever. As other creatures begin to learn that Diana has uncovered this ancient text they hunt it down only to find out that Diana is the only one with the power to break the spell on it.
3. Cinder, By: Marissa Myer
This book is another one that is part of a series--I think I'm seeing a trend here, haha. Anyways, the Lunar Chronicles are another group of books that everyone on BookTube is going nuts over. I am a few books behind, but I am hoping I can finish one a month and catch up with the rest of the world!
Cinder is a retelling of the story of Cinderella with a modern and futuristic twist. Humans and androids now roam the earth, but a viscous plague is killing all of humanity. Thus, Cinder (a cyborg) is thrown into the center of it all, and must find the answers to her past in order to save the future.
4. Red Queen, By: Victoria Aveyard
With a 4.22 on Goodreads and a Goodreads Choice 2015 Winner, this book is what everyone has been talking about lately. Victoria also just released a brand new novela which I want to read in the near future, so I definitely just need to flip through this book asap.
In this world, the people are divided by blood--red or silver. And your blood determines your place in society. Reds are common folk, and Silvers are the elite who have powers like super heroes! One day, Mare Borrow, a red-blood, finds herself working in the Silver Palace, and despite her red blood, learns that she too has a power of her own.
