We're having a boy! | Gender Reveal

Earlier this month we hosted a small get together with family and a few friends at my parents house for a gender reveal party. The plan was to have everyone over for a late lunch/dinner and share the sex of our baby. We chose to do the reveal kind of like we were high school recruits picking a college team. We placed a pink and a blue hat in front of each of us, then after opening the envelope and having our moment together, we then turned to our family and waved our hands over the hats before picking the color that corresponded to the stereotypical blue boy or pink girl. While Trevor and I were ecstatic to know the sex of our baby, we also were just really happy to know that our little one was doing well and appeared happy and healthy.

In my last blog post, titled “Pregnancy Update | half way done,” I shared everything about our baby that has happened so far. During that post, you may have read that we recently got our 20 week anatomy scan (which is an ultrasound to check on everything with the baby). You can watch a vlog about our first ultrasound experience here. At that ultrasound, we told the technician that while we wanted to find out the sex of our baby, we actually wanted him to put the sex in an envelope so that we could have the moment shared together later in front of family and friends. This is the envelope that we opened during our gender reveal party.

Also, in case you missed it—we did a few old wives tales before finding out whether our baby was a boy or a girl. We wanted to do these before we knew the actual result as to not skew our answers. This was posted on our vlog channel and you can watch it by clicking the button below:

The day of our gender reveal party Trevor and I headed to my parents’ house to prepare the house. We purchased a kit off of amazon that had a bunch of amazing balloons, photo booth props, streamers, ribbons, and more. You can see that kit here. We set up all of these things and started making the food. We chose to have tacos at our party because 1) they are simple to make and fun for people to assemble in the way that they like, and 2) it offered options for me that were vegetarian while still giving people options to eat ground beef.

Any excuse to get family together is a good excuse in my book. So, I was really happy to be surrounded by family and friends. We even offered a zoom link to those that couldn’t attend in person!! Having everyone who we cared about most and who loved our baby so much already there to experience this moment with us was so special.

Below you will see the vlog from our whole day!! Please give that video a watch and subscribe to our YouTube channel if you haven’t already. We create videos as a form of memory keeping during our busy lives. Our goal is to use our channel to show others that memory keeping is important, and it’s something that you can do too!

I had a good friend of mine, Katie from Katie Osborn Photography, come over to take photos of the event. Katie is also one of my best friends, so of course I just wanted her there at the gender reveal anyways too!

In one of my recent podcasts, we talked about why it’s important to hire a professional to be there to take photos or videos. This party, and hiring Katie, was the perfect example of why I love doing this!! I knew that we would be spending time vlogging and documenting the event on our own, but I also wanted to ensure that we could capture some special pictures of Trevor and I in the moment.

Just like Reason #6 from our podcast: “When you have a professional there capturing the moments then you can be busy living them. Hiring a photographer or videographer means that they’re the ones running around snapping pics and you don’t have to be. Then when you get your photos or videos back you’ll be able to relive all of those moments--the ones you were in and the ones you were not.”

Finding out that we were having a boy was so exciting. Just like I said at the beginning of this post, Trevor and I were simply happy having a healthy baby no matter what. But honestly, we really wanted a boy! The plan is to hopefully have more than one baby (maybe 2 or 3) and when imagining a perfect world Trevor and I both picture our kids having an older brother. We really wanted our first born to be a boy.

That being said, so did my family! In our gender reveal vlog we talk about how I am the oldest of four girls, I have only one cousin on my dad’s side of the family that is a boy, and then since my cousins have started having kids only one of them has had a boy. Needless to say, that side of the family was desperate for a boy. My dad of all people was probably the most excited—he was even outside before the party started with a handful of “Team Boy” stickers recruiting people to his team before they even walked in the door. Trevor’s family on the other had I would assume wanted a girl. Trevor’s sister, Chelsea, already has 3 kids… and they are all boys. But I know that they are so excited for us no matter what.

My cousin is also pregnant right now!! We are due literally days apart and might have little ones on the same day. She is pregnant with her second girl.

I think I said this a million times in this blog post, but we are so excited to be having a boy. We now know the name of our baby and sometimes call him that at home. But we are not sharing the name until little boy is born! If you want to see more updates and hear first about when he makes an appearance into this world then be sure to follow me on Instagram and subscribe to our YouTube channel because these are the places where we will be posting first.

Baby Lang is a boy!! And he is expected September 2021.
